Making you aware of what your options are
You may have a clear idea of what job you would like to do or maybe you want to explore a range of career ideas. Careers advisers are expert in supporting you to consider all the options open to you. Helping you to weigh up your choices and consider what is right for you.
This could include exploring:
- different types of jobs
- different sectors of employment
- different routes into different jobs
- the range of courses available
- and understanding the different levels of courses and qualifications
- study options and helping you consider whether you want to study full-time or part-time
- the different ways of learning and training available and what you prefer e.g. do you like classroom based activities, online courses, home-study, on the job training , work experience, voluntary work or through an apprenticeship?
- funding for training and what you may be entitled to. We also direct you to organisations that can help with advice on benefits.
Whether you are just starting out or want to change your job, our careers advisers are here to help you explore the opportunities and options available. Our advisers can offer you free advice and support on learning and work.
Still at school or college?
If you are still at school or college, please contact student services or your careers adviser. Alternatively, free online support is available through Gov.uk. You can contact a careers adviser by telephone, webchat, email or text message. Call: 0800 100 900 (8am to 10pm every day).
If you are aged 14-19 you can also use UCAS Progress to find information on courses and training.
Aged 19 or over?
If you are aged 19 and over (or aged 18 and registered with the Jobcentre or in custody) this service is free and available through National Careers Service.
