How you can help your son/daughter’s career choice?

Parents have a great influence on their son/daughter’s career choice and you can support them by encouraging them to use the many resources available.

Careers Advisers currently work in most schools for at least part of the week and offer impartial information advice and guidance on making choices, researching jobs and careers.  They have information and advice on making applications, labour market information, higher education, interview skills/techniques. You are welcome to attend your son/daughter’s interview or discuss any questions you may have click here for details of how to make contact.

Students start making important decisions from Years 8 or 9 and as part of their careers education students are introduced to a range of internet based resources:

Lots of information about qualifications needed and progression routes.  Access using log-in details given by your school Careers Adviser or Careers Co-ordinator.  Some schools may have a similar programme under a different name.

If your son/daughter is thinking of going into the workplace at 16/17/18 have a look at local and national opportunities on www.apprenticeships.org.uk· – students can register and receive regular updates on vacancies.

Going to University? help your son/daughter to generate degree courses for research linked to their A level subjects at www.ucas.com by trying the STAMFORD test.  The site also has help and advice on how to choose the right course, university etc.
