Hello, my name is Sephorah.
I am 15 and currently living in Coventry. I am attending Bluecoat Church of England and Music Secondary School. I am currently in Year 10 and doing my GCSE’s. I speak French and I enjoy taking chances in new opportunities.
Lately, I have been placed at CSWP which is a careers guidance company, for work experience. I have found it very interesting knowing what it’s like to work in an office environment. Since I know quite a bit about computers and also take great interest in them, I have been given a good experience. My placement was only for a week but I feel like I have learnt a lot from a weeks worth of work. I was given tasks that I could understand such as inserting data onto Microsoft Excel, creating spreadsheets from data records and other office like challenges.
I was told that when working in an office it’s the people that make a difference and set the atmosphere.
My first two days were nerve-wracking, I was confused and started to doubt that I had any idea what was going on. I felt even more nervous when I got told I was doing valuable tasks - they were not just time passers. But after some time I adjusted and my last days were worthwhile and now I can look at a task and think... ‘This is super easy!’
At school when everyone got their placements, my teacher insisted that we were all going to be treated like adults - one slip up and we would be in trouble. The class would then roar with questions and start asking if we would get at least a bit of pay. She would then laugh and say “Maybe...” I guess she was right I was treated like an adult, but everyone I worked with was super friendly and insisted that I at least get a 15 minute break from the computer each hour plus a lunch break. It wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be, and when I look back I realise that I enjoyed myself.
